“Presence not Presents” Assembly Part 1. Unfortunately the iPad ran out of storage (the joys of technology) and we missed 6 children’s lovely reading of the poem.

Pauric got special mention for taking ownership of his learning - both asking and answering questions in class. He even baked cookies inspired by a recipe in a proof read and edit activity.

This week is Maths Week Ireland.
Today we explored the concept of time. We completed different activities for what we thought was a minute in groups of four. We added up our total times, converted from seconds to seconds and minutes and calculated how fast or slow we were.
This week we have been working on our discursive writing, ending with a debate. The motion was “social media is bad for your health.” We had an opposing and proposing team. Mrs Kearney was very impressed with our efforts but found it too difficult to make a decision on who won. Well done to all!
A great day of Cross Country at Tobermore. Well done to those who ran the fun run and those who competed. Year 7 were a credit to St John’s and we had a very enjoyable day.
*** SPECIAL MENTION ***

Tea staining paper for our diary entries.
We end our day once a week with ten minutes of guided meditation. Children’s meditation improves attention and concentration. It also helps with self awareness, allowing children to look inside themselves to find out who they are and what makes them happy.
The mirror in our classroom reminds us that we are in charge of our happiness and achievements.
